Architecture of Place

Place, before form.

A site in Bhutan is never neutral ground — it slopes toward a valley, sits below a ridgeline, follows a stream. Contemporary practice and Bhutanese proportion meet here, in how a building is set into what is already there, rather than placed on top of it.

Approach

How we work

01Site first

Every plan begins with the land — slope, aspect and approach — before a wall is drawn.

02Material honesty

Stone, timber and earth are used as themselves, not disguised as something else.

03Proportion, not ornament

Where Bhutanese tradition informs a building, it does so through ratio and rhythm, not decoration.

04Built to be lived in

A building is judged by how it is used and inhabited, long after the render is forgotten.
